About us

The Library is a strategic asset to Western University, meeting the University’s aims in providing Library services that inspire our students and staff to reach their full potential. Its fundamental role is supporting the teaching, research and public life elements of the academic enterprise. The Library supports the University’s mission in developing our people, partnerships, services and our physical and online environments.

The Library has its own Research Centre that has existed for more than 10 years. The Centre holds a significant collection of books from the world's leading publishers, across all disciplines and subjects. The Centre has a collection 160 periodicals and a unique collection of rare books.

The library currently holds a total of 50,000 titles in Azerbaijani, Russian, English, German, French, Spanish, Turkish and other languages. English books account for more than 15,000 titles. Our collection of academic books is in a wide range of subjects:

In addition, you can find numerous reference books, dictionaries and encyclopedias.

There is also a wide range of periodicals, educational newspapers and magazines that include 42 titles from USA, 20 from Great Britain, 29 from Russia, 9 from Germany, and 5 from the Netherlands.

The Library is continually expanding and improving its facilities, book stock, information resources, equipment and services. The librarians regularly communicate with the publishing houses in Azerbaijan and abroad to obtain new titles for the catalogue and inform readers about new books.



Library facilities

The library has two large reading halls with seating for 150 readers. Of these, 32 are provided with facilities for portable computer use, and 14 are reserved solely for the use of hard-copy newspapers or large-format material. The Library's catalogue of printed collections is available in the adjacent Issue Hall. All computers in the Library have web access.

Our Computer Centre features the latest audio-visual equipment including sound and video recording available for the use of students and staff. Facilities. There is an audio-visuals room designed specifically for the students to undertake media activities. Our digital collection consists of 1000 records including:

·Spanish language and Spanish for Special Purposes

·Educational films

·Variety of classical and modern films

There are 30 PCs available for the users with web access. We have the latest audio-visual equipment for the use of our students and academic staff.

Our Opening Hours

The library is open Mondays to Fridays from 09:00 to 20:00 and on Saturdays from 09:00 to 16:00. During national holidays the library is closed.
